Property Tax Relief for Qualifying Denver Residents

The rising cost of living has been difficult for many Denverites, especially those with fixed or low incomes. Thankfully, the Denver Property Tax Relief Program can help! This program is a tax rebate on the previous year’s property taxes. Applicants must be able to show they lived in their home for the previous year and have fully paid their property taxes. Refund check amounts are decided on a sliding scale with the average being around $1,100.

To qualify, a resident must be a homeowner 65 years or older, or have a dependent child in the home, or be living with a disability. Additionally, an applicant cannot earn more than 60 percent of Area Median Income for a given year. For example, a household of 2 people would need to make less than $62,640 in 2024 to qualify. Social Security income is not counted toward the income limit but Colorado’s Adult Financial program benefits are included. Renters with disability and 65 years or older may also qualify, but must be earning less than 25 percent of Area Median Income for single renters or 30 percent combined for two member households.

Visit denvergov.org/propertytaxrelief for more information and to file an application online. Denver is currently accepting applications for the 2024 tax year through April 30, 2026. Cases are processed first come first served so make sure to get them in sooner rather than later. Colorado Housing Connects can also help answer questions and fill out an application over the phone by calling 1-844-926-6632.
