DOTI invests $12.7M to Replace 60-Year-Old Monaco Parkway Bridge

You have most likely experienced the “new traffic pattern” on Monaco at Cherry Creek. In October, Denver's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) and contractor Kraemer North America began work on a 20+ month bridge replacement and rehabilitation project on the Monaco Parkway Bridge over Cherry Creek. The project, which utilizes $12.7M  in funding from the voter-approved Elevate Denver Bond, will replace the deteriorating 60-year-old bridge and improve crossing safety over Cherry Creek. Here is what Cook Park residents need to know.

What is the goal?

The goal of this project is to address bridge deterioration and provide a safe crossing over Cherry Creek that will last well into the future.

What improvements will be made?

DOTI will replace the bridge, tie-in both directions of Cherry Creek Drive, reconstruct a portion of Cherry Creek Trail, and widen sidewalks.

How long will construction take?

October 2024 - Summer 2026

What roads will be closed?

During bridge replacement, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction of Monaco Pkwy. Detours will be in place for pedestrians and cyclists. Turn restrictions and full closures on Cherry Creek North and South Drives will be required intermittently.

Project Phasing

• Phase 1a (Oct 2024-Jan 2025):
  Remove and reconstruct the eastern half of the Monaco Parkway bridge.

• Phase 1b (Jan - Apr 2025):
  Tie-in new eastern half of the bridge with roadway.

• Phase 2 (Apr - July 2025):
  Construct the median portion of the new bridge.

• Phase 3 (July - Oct 2025):
  Remove and reconstruct the western half of the Monaco Parkway bridge.

• Phase 4 (Oct 2025 - Q3 2026):
  Restoration of Cherry Creek Trail, pave sidewalks, install median north of the bridge, and finishing operations.
